The Finetech-Brindley Bladder Control System restores urinary continence to the spinal cord injured patient with a reflex bladder, and provides on demand urination. The system stops reflex incontinence associated with spinal cord injury, and eliminates the need for self catheterisation. Bladder compliance (elasticity) is improved, which usually increases bladder volume, allowing the patient to urinate less frequently, usually four or five times a day at times the patient finds convenient.       More ...

The STIMuSTEP System is an implantable device used to assist stroke and multiple sclerosis patients to correct 'dropped foot'. Hemiplegic patients are sometimes left with residual muscular paralysis or weakness in one or both feet, which frequently prevents them from raising their foot naturally when walking (dorsiflexion). The foot “drops” when lifted, which causes the patient to adopt an unnatural walking gait to allow the affected foot to clear the ground when the leg is advanced. This disability can leave the patient vulnerable to frequent falls, and requires greater effort and concentration for the patient to walk, leading to early fatigue and loss of confidence. The STIMuSTEP is able to correct dropfoot and allows the patient to walk faster, with less effort and reduced risk of falling. When using the device the walking gait becomes more natural.          More ...

The NeuRx System is a diaphragm pacing system which can help spinal cord injured and ALS (also known as Motor Neurone Disease) patients to breathe. The system consists of four electrodes which are implanted into the diaphragm using a simple laparoscopic procedure, and an external controller. The electrodes pass through the skin and are connected to the controller which provides electrical stimulation to the diaphragm muscles at appropriate intervals, causing the diaphragm to contract which, in turn, results in the patient taking a breath. The NeuRx system can be used in addition to, or can replace, a mechanical ventilator or non invasive mechanical ventilator.    More ...
